Hello everyone! So much has happened the past few months with im:arte that it’s about time to stop and get you up to speed. We were invited to exhibit our work during the Undocumented Student Activism & Civic Engagement at Claremont Graduate University (Oct. 28-30) where Dr. William Perez opened the event with a lecture and book-signing. Many community members, students, and professors attended the event (see pics from previous post). This was our very first online live-stream event (hopefully we’ll get to post up some of the recorded portions of the event soon). As the exhibit proceeded, we went on to find out that the Latino Student Union (LSU) at Pitzer College wanted to award our collective with a scholarship for AB540 students during their ‘Dia De Los Muertos’ benefit dinner (Nov 4). The news shook us with excitement and several members from our collective went to receive the award and share their stories with the students. im:arte set up a booth the following day for the annual CSUN de M.E.Ch.A. Dia De Los Muertos event in Northridge, where we introduced our work to students and community members. im:arte collective member Carol ‘Mocabel’ Belisa was on hand to offer her skills with face painting for the Calavera Fashion Show; having the opportunity to continue face painting from the im:arte booth. It was a spectacular night that ended with calavera smiles for all to see.

Members of the im:arte collective recently went to the “Siqueiros in Los Angeles: Censorship Defied” exhibit held at the Autry National Center museum (Dec. 5). Pictures will be uploaded soon!
